Recomendations


The Division for the Tourist Security of the National Police of Paraguay coordinates and performs police preventative actions at the entrance to the country, in the downtown area of Ciudad del Este, in the Department of Alto Parana and on national highways by effecting measures of protection, support and assistance for tourists in transit.


  1. Check and try your purchases on leaving commercial businesses, shopping centers, malls, and on arriving at your hotel. Demand legal receipts and warranties.  In the case of being a victim of a fraud, denounce this act at the Division of Tourist Security.
  2. In the downtown area, in the case of being a victim of a fraud by a commercial store, or being asked to pay a bribe to a public employee, traffic policeman, immigration police or national police, denounce this to the Division of Tourist Security.
  3. Guard your money and passport in a safe deposit box at your hotel. Make a list of these items and  leave it in a sealed envelope at the reception desk.
  4. Be careful of your belongings, bags, purses, wallets and camaras, especially when at outdoor markets or on public walkways, streets and buses.
  5. Hire taxis, vans and motor taxis at your hotel or at the tourist places you visit or  at the boothes located in the airports.
  6. Change money in banks or money exchange houses. Always avoid seemingly better exchange rates offered by unknown persons. Take with you only the money necessary.
  7. Use authorized taxis, vans and motor taxis with recognizable license plates. Never employ private automobiles without proper identification, even if they offer better rates than those of regular taxis. Do not use means of transportation other than those parked at authorized stops when going to your destination.
  8. When using taxis, vans and motor taxis, ask first the price of the service and the distance.
  9. Avoid using jewlery and adornments which attract attention when going out alone. Also avoid carrying large sums of money.
  10. Travel with your car doors locked and with windows closed. Park your car preferably in a controlled parking lot. Use the safety belt and keep your car lights on when on highways. Do not pay fines directly to highway police
